Overview

The First Aid Level 1 course provides learners with essential knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively to medical emergencies in the workplace and everyday environments. As a First Aider, learners are regarded as First Responders, playing a critical role in the Patient Care Cycle by providing immediate care until professional medical assistance arrives.

Delivered by registered healthcare professionals, this course combines theory with hands-on practical training, ensuring learners can competently perform life-saving techniques such as Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and choking management. First Aid Level 1 serves as the entry point to the three recognised levels of First Aid training and is typically the minimum legal requirement for workplace compliance during inspections by the Department of Labour.

Course Objectives

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider
  • Identify and manage emergency situations safely and effectively
  • Apply basic anatomical and physiological knowledge to first aid treatment
  • Conduct primary and secondary assessments of injured or ill persons
  • Provide appropriate first aid for life-threatening and common injuries
  • Perform CPR and manage choking emergencies competently
  • Provide appropriate follow-up care and maintain hygiene standards
